US trumpet star Roy Hargrove opens the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival later with a performance at the Queen's Hall.
The programme for the 31st festival also includes top names such as Courtney Pine, Jack Bruce, Martin Taylor and Jools Holland.
A jazz orchestra directed by veteran Scots saxophonist Joe Temperley, 79, will be another of the highlights.
There will also be free events such as the Mardi Gras and Jazz on a Summer's Day in Princes Street Gardens.
The 10-day festival uses 19 venues, ranging from formal concert halls and clubs to unusual settings such as The Signet Library and Rosslyn Chapel.
Mardi Gras
Pianist Dick Hyman will play a concert of jazz on the harpsichord in the Georgian splendour of The Signet Library.
Baptiste Trotignon performs solo in the magical atmosphere of Rosslyn Chapel.
The festival's line-up of blues artists includes Scots exiles Jack Bruce, the former guitarist of rock band Cream, and Maggie Bell.
