You should be able to find it in most of the tourist sites that cover the Cairngorms National Park.

If you have a very keen eye you might spot the place in the photo in the background.  Might take you a while to find it though

Where is this place

MadWelshie

Ok This is the Stirling Star pyramid.

Quote:
utside the church is the Valley Cemetery. In past times was the site of jousting tournaments and markets. The Cemetery has a Pyramid, built by William Drummond in 1863.

William Drummond was a land surveyor and nurseryman whose immediate descendants were a well known family in Stirling. They were responsible for a wide range of activities both locally and nationally. These included the establishment of an agricultural museum in the 1830's, an extensive seed and nursery business, exploration in Africa and the Drummond Tract Enterprise, the foremost 19th century publisher of religious pamphlets.  William was the eldest son of the well-known Stirling family which included Peter Drummond and his nephew Henry. He was one of the instigators of the Valley Cemetery and his obsession with religion can be seen in the Martyrs' Monument and the Star Pyramid (also known as Salem Rock).

He commissioned the Star Pyramid from William Barclay in 1863 - note the white marble Bibles incorporated by Barclay round the base of the edifice and the names of religious tracts (published by his brother Peter's "Drummond Tract Enterprise").  The Pyramid is dedicated to all those who suffered martyrdom in the cause of civil and religious liberty in Scotland. William planted a Pleasure Garden round the Pyramid, complete with trees and plants. He also paid for five of the six statues seen in various parts of the graveyard and donated trees to be planted round the National Wallace Monument.

This area was laid out as a public pleasure ground by local nurseryman and evangelist, William Drummond. The Star Pyramid, with its texts and emblems, was nearing completion in April 1863, when a bible and the Confession of faith were sealed into a chamber within the structure. It recalls the principles of the Reformation and publicised the famous Drummond Tract Enterprises.

The pyramid is on a raised plinth of 4 steps and has a set of steps leading to it. Each of the faces are very similar. On one face is a circular marble plaque, the text of which is very worn and some of the lower part is readable.

Each of the sides has (from bottom to top):
   ▪  sunken relief text with a reference to verses from the Psalms:
       ▫  Union Banner, XLV CIII
       ▫  Rock of Ages, XCV
       ▫  Covenant Rest, CXXXII CXLV
▫  Thrown of Right, XCVI XCVII
   ▪  marble bible
   ▪  carved circular rosette
   ▪  thistle
   ▪  crown

Does anyone want to do another guess the location?
eloise

It's in the South West of England.
MadWelshie

I have not a clue
eloise

It is Alfreds Tower in Wiltshire.

Alfred’s Tower

In the mid-18th century, a renewed interest in the Middle Ages led to a Gothic revival and the fashion to idolise past heroes.

King Alfred is known for defeating the invading Danes at the battle of Edington. It is this victory which Henry Hoare II sought to commemorate by constructing the triangular redbrick Alfred's Tower, beginning in 1762.

Lying 2 miles north-west of the garden, the 50m high Tower stands on the spot where in 879AD the King raised his standard after emerging from hiding.

The Saxon King Alfred was commonly revered by the British; for it was believed that they inherited their freedom from their Saxon ancestors.

The stone tablet above the door on the east face of the tower reads:

ALFRED THE GREAT
AD 879 on this Summit
Erected his Standard
Against Danish Invaders
To him We owe The Origin of Juries
The Establishment of a Militia
The Creation of a Naval Force
ALFRED The Light of a Benighted Age
Was a Philosopher and a Christian
The Father of his People
The Founder of the English
MONARCHY and LIBERTY

The plane crash

On 10th July 1944 a military plane heading for Zeals Airfield and carrying five American airmen flew into the conical roof of the turret in thick fog.  The plane crashed and all five occupants were killed.  This website previously described the plane as being a de Havilland Norseman, but we now believe it was a Noorduyn C-64A Norseman, a Canadian design built under licence by the Americans.  The 1948 and 1951 editions of the Stourhead guidebook, published by Country Life for the National Trust,  state: "Owing to war damage the Tower is dangerous and cannot be open to the public at present".  However the writer of the guide, James Lees-Milne, tantalises the reader by describing the view from the top of the tower: "...the panorama embracing Salisbury Plain, the Blackmore Vale bounded by the Dorset Downs, and the levels of Sedge Moor is one of unending trees and fields of English green".  The turret was repaired in the 1986.  On the display board inside the tower there is a photograph of the new cone being lifted into place by a Royal Navy helicopter (NB in late March 2003, when the tower was reopened for the 2003 season, this photograph had been removed from display - we shall see whether it reappears later).

PS I have climbed to the top, the views are lovely
