It would have been a doddle for the cutting engineer. There'd only be one tape, that for the A side, and all he'd have to do is turn the tape over after he'd cut the A side, put a new lacquer on the lathe, cue up the tape to the very end of the song, start the lathe, press play on the tape playback deck, and do a cut with the tape thus running back-to-front. (Bear in mind, a mono tape made for studio decks is what's called full track, that is, the recording is made across the full width of the tape in one pass; there's no 'side 2' to it.)
