Caerphilly Council and Arriva Trains Wales said they are doing all they can to return services to normal.

Network Rail has said the train services will return to normal by 15 September, and apologised for the inconvenience caused to customers.

Services from Caerphilly to Penarth will operate normally from today using a shuttle service between Ystrad Mynach and Bargoed and Rhymney; and between Ystrad Mynach and Caerphilly.

The company suggested passengers use park and ride facilities at Caerphilly station in order to cut down on journey times.

Meanwhile, Machen Primary and Cwm Ifor Primary, Caerphilly will be closed today as they clear up their grounds following flooding. Both will re-open to pupils on Tuesday.

The gates of Nant y Park Primary School are open, despite a need to clear debris from its grounds. with parents advised to use the main entrance only as the rear entrance is blocked.

Graig y Rhacca is also open as per usual but classes are to due to be re-arranged as a result of some limited flooding internally.

In a statement Caerphilly Council said it was doing all it could to return services to normal.

Meanwhile, environment minister Jane Davidson praised those working to help those affected by flooding.

Friday's downpours hit homes and the transport network across Rhondda Cynon Taf, the Gwent valleys and parts of Powys in particular.

"My thoughts are with all those people affected by the flooding this weekend, whose houses and businesses have been flooded or where they have had to move out of their homes."

She said emergency services, the Environment Agency, councils and volunteers had helped minimise the effects of the flooding.

"Their dedication and sheer hard work in difficult circumstances has kept people safe and well," said Ms Davidson.

"Our flood defences have also stood up to what has been an extreme weather event and have again provided protection to many thousands of homes and businesses from flooding."

She said well developed emergency plans had been put into action.
