Great, but what do they get out of it?
Do they place a whacking great advert on your page or video?

It didn't say, but I have on occasion seen YT clips with ads that popped up along the bottom of the viewing area. There's a 'click to close' X on them though.
Surprisingly enough, I only heard of this video from this thread on a talking machine forum, where someone had made a video of their Edison Diamond Disc machine playing a DD record from the late 1920s, who'd discovered the audio had been yanked from it.
Edison abandoned the record business in 1929; all their sound recordings are public domain, but my hunch is the problem arose from whomever holds the copyright on the song itself objecting to its use.

I've had two copytight warnings!
In both cases they said Universal Music were prepared to allow the video to remain!

I hate that to the point where I hate going to You Tube now.
It should give you the choice in your settings if you want this turned on or not.
It should not be left for the person to turn off in every video, unless they are not logged in of course.
Oh does this not make me

It is very frustrating that Utube thinks they can turn the music of.

There was a guy called 'Jennylover' around Christmastime who posted lots of clips he'd made from numerous album tracks, mainly from scarce LPs he had.
Somehow or other he'd run afoul of someone with a lot of clout there, and POOF!....one day I went to try to search out some of them, so I could connect a recorder to my computer to record the sound off them, and anything and everything he'd posted was gone. A little investigation turned up the information that his account was 'suspended'.
That was the last I heard from him, back in January.

It is not all You Tubes fault though, the Performing Rights people has a lot to do with it, You Tube refused to pay what they were demanding as payment for using the tunes of their performers.
To be fair, there has always been a warning not to use others music on your videos. Though I think that takes it a bit far.
I can understand why music companies want to charge for watching videos, but how is people meant to here artists these days when there is no TOTPs etc.
The DJs on radio play what they want or are told to play, so how do we find new artists?

I don't know either. Too often now, everything's auto-tuned and 99% of the time I can hear it, so I can't enjoy it due to this.
I think about the worst thing I've heard go wrong is where Prince demands things get yanked off YT. I don't mean where a song of his is used wholesale, taken directly off a CD--I'm talking of something like where someone posted a video (probably all of 20-odd seconds long) of their little 2 year old dancing along to a bit of one of his songs, and the sound is the Prince track--but as captured by the 'camcorder''s microphone, from the 'ghettoblaster' (erm, 'boombox') across the room.
He demanded YT pull the entire clip, and they did....
